Macintosh OS 10.7, or commonly known as Mac OS X Lion, has settled into third position behind Mac’s Snow Leopard and Leopard operating systems in its share among all Macs. Still, compared to the Chitika Insights report exactly two months month ago, the Lion has jumped two fold in its Mac market share.

In this study, Chitika Insights investigated the extent of the Mac Lion’s roar a few months after its birth into the world. Taking a week’s sample of data from our network, we found that on average, the Mac OS X Lion share has risen slightly less than 200% in the last two months. For most of last week, the Lion has accounted for 1/8 of all Mac users as seen in the bar graph below. We can safely assume that the Lion will continue to drive up the overall Mac OS usage, as illustrated in our latest OS Market Share report.

To put the Mac OS X Lion’s current Mac OS share in perspective, Mac OS X Snow Leopard and Leopard have been around since 2006 and 2008, respectively. Among these heavyweights stands the Lion, which has only been in existence since July 20th of 2011. Chitika Insights believes the question of the latest Mac OS version capturing the Lion’s market share among Mac operating systems is still up in the air.

What do you think about the Mac OS X Lion? Will its roar ever be louder than the Snow Leopard or Leopard? Obviously, I refer exclusively to the Mac OS environment, and not nature.
