Local Queries Get 38% Higher Clickthrough Rate

23 July 2010 By

We’ve been spending a lot of time lately looking at the effectiveness of local advertising, mostly because our recent launch of LAX Local Ad Exchange has given us very much of a vested interest.  Our latest findings?  When you compare queries that our system thinks are local to the general pool of search queries, the local searches click on ads 38% more often.

The difference in the norm and local becomes even more pronounced when you look specifically at mobile devices: when mobile devices in general click at a 0.76% rate, local search queries on mobile devices click on ads 1.25% of the time – 64% more often.

Ad Click Rates - Mobile, Local

The ad click rates for this study were based on a sample of 5,374,376 queries across the Chitika advertising network.  Queries were marked as Local/Mobile, Local/Non-Mobile, Non-Local/Mobile, and Non-Local/Non-Mobile.
